1. Analyze a typical structure from the “Delta de l’Ebre”: A beam gangway (pasarela)
Forces:
· downwards compression on the pillars
Loads:
· dead load: weight of the structure itself
· live load: with people and objects
· settlement load: due to limes and soft sand below pillars
· termal load: due to expansion & shrinking of the wood due to climate changes
· wind load: lateral wind may push horizontally the structure
· dynamic load: due to vibration caused by people or objects’ weight
Materials: weather-proof wood to resist water and air

2. Parts of a bicycle. Analyze your bicycle: how many plates and pinions have your bicycle? Which is the gear ratio of your bicycle? Do you think that the bicycle is a multiplying or a reduction system? Why?

· 1 plate and 1 pinion
· Around 4-to-1 gear ratio with the front chain wheel with 44 teeth and rear cog wheel with 11 teeth and a wheel diameter of aprox. 1m. 1x44/11=4
· It’s multiplying because with a limited force, it produces much more movement and momentum (impulso)
3. Draw a Compass Rose, using the Autosketch program. You have the needed instructions hanged on the “Campus Virtual”
